Obsidium shuffle, redux 3

Hello and good to see you here

This will be the last post covering the individual gem shuffle in which this will cover alicite, nightstone, hessonite and zephrite and the potential profit of buying it up and deing it.

Alicite

Alicite is first up this time. Like all of the gems it can be crafted into a green quality pendant and will occasionally be a blue quality pendant. Alicite disenchants into 1-4 hypnotic dust or 1-4 lesser celestial essences, not taking into account the bountiful bag perk. Let's take a look at a formula that takes this into account along with being able to figure out your potential profit. This formula will also include the value of the blue quality jewelry and its disenchanted form too.

As usual 1.42 represents the price of one jeweler setting. The 2 at the beginning of the equation shows that it takes 2 alicite for each pendant. The average amount of dust and essence was assumed from the wowhead DE table. The 1/3 in front of GCE shows that we are converting lesser celestial essences into greater ones and the 1/3 in front of the S shows that we are converting small heavenly shards into normal ones. You have to choose which has greater value on your server, either the blue quality items or heavenly shards. The final equation brings it all into one along with also showing the odds that you will get that enchanting mat with .74 representing a 74 percent chance of getting hypnotic dust and a 26 percent chance of getting lesser celestial essences.

Now lets look at examples on my server to see if this equation actually works. Alicite is currently at 11.55g on my server. I buy 27 alicite at 11.55g each. Hypnotic dust is at 9.75g, GCE is at 24.27g each, a heavenly shard is at 62.2g each and blue quality pendants are around 90g each. Now lets say you get 1 blue quality item from your crafting.

For me the equation works but only if I get lucky and get a blue quality item.

Zephrite

Not  much to say about zephrite besides to vendor it or sell it on the ah on the days that it is the daily.

Hessonite and Nightstone  

Hessonite and Nightstone are exactly the same in the way that they disenchant. The only difference would be their price and number once you plug them into the formula. They each can DE into 1-4 hypnotic dust and 1-4 lesser celestial essences. Their blue quality version can be disenchanted into one heavenly shard. Its very nearly the same equation as alicite but I'll show you anyway. All disenchant values I used are from wowhead's disenchant tables.

The same explanation I gave for alicite covers these also. The only differences are the removal of the 1/3 from the S because of the fact that they will disenchant into full heavenly shards and the different percent chances of getting dust and essence. I don't believe you need another example here but if you do want one please say something in the comments.

Obsidium shuffle, redux 2

Hello and welcome back

Sorry it took so long to get another post up, was having problems with blogger for the past couple days.

Last time I covered the potential profit of just buying up carnelians and disenchanting them. This time I will cover one of the other gems associated with the obsidium shuffle.

Jasper

First up is jasper. It can be crafted into a jasper ring of green quality and it randomly can be a blue quality ring if you are lucky. Jasper usually disenchants into 1-4 dust or 1-3 lesser celestial essences. Lets look at a formula that models this and that you can use to calculate potential profit. Also have to consider the chance of obtaining a blue quality item and also the value of said item in its disenchanted form too.

 1.42 is the price of the jeweler setting. I took the assumed average of how many dust or essence you get since quantity will overcome RNG.The 1/3 next to the GCE shows that we will be assuming that you convert all lesser celestials into greater ones. The 1/3 next to S shows that we will be assuming you convert all small heavenly shards into large ones.   You have to choose which has more value, the blue quality rings or the heavenly shards. The final equation just brings it all together for one total. The final equation also has the two decimal points in it to represent the percent chance that you will get that enchanting mat when you disenchant according to the wowhead disenchanting table.You will have to choose which equations to use by looking at your server prices.

Now lets look at an example using the prices on my server
So I buy 50 jasper gems at 7g per gem. The price of a GCE is at 27.5g, hypnotic dust isn't represented at all on my ah so lets be pessimistic and assume a price of 5g per dust , blue rings at 100g each, and heaveanly shards are at 70g each. Lets also assume you get 3 blue rings from it

50(7) + 50(1.42)<2.5x47(5)
350 + 71<=587.5=fdust
421<587.5=fdust

50(7)+50(1.42)<2 x 47(1/3(27.5))
350+71< 861.6=fessence
421<861.6=fessence

50(7)+50(1.42)< 3* 100
350+ 71<300=Fblue
421<300=Fblue

50(7) +50(1.42)< 3*(1/3(70))
421<70=fshard

421<(.74)587.5+ (.26)861.6 + 300
421<434.75 + 224.016 + 300
421< 958.766

The equation does seem to work and it shows that it is profitable when you just buy jasper gems.

Pros- Can use the equation to quickly figure out profits, way faster than prospecting ore,
Cons- It doesn't fully take into account extremely bad or good RNG, buying just jasper may lead to a shortage of greater celestial essences if you do the shuffle for enchanting mats. The equation also doesn't take into account auction house deposit costs. Doesn't take into account the bountiful bags guild perk

That ended up being far longer than I wanted but oh well. Next time I'll look at the rest of the gems and I'll try to keep it shorter.

Obsidium shuffle, redux

We all know the obsidium shuffle. We have grinded countless thousands of ore down with our prospecting macro. We suffered under the nerf to the cut gem price and we are going to suffer even more once they change the price of uncut gems to 50 silver also. Perhaps it might be time to try a different way of shuffling. Lets look at how much profit there is in the carnelian market.

Each carnelian can turn into either 2-3 GCE or 3-5 hypnotic dust not counting a proc from the bountiful bags perk. I'll try to make a formula that figures out how much profit you can make from buying up just carnelians instead of all of the ore.

NP+  N(1.42) <  2.5(N/3)(GCE)          P= price of carnelian, N= number of carnelians
NP+ N(1.42) < 4(N/3)(dust)               GCE= price of greater celestial essence,
                                                            dust= price of hypnotic dust
The 1.42 is the price of the jeweler setting, dividing N by 3 on the right side is to show the number of disenchants that you actually do.

So first look at your auction house. Look at the prices of greater celestial essences,hypnotic dust and carnelians. Take these prices and input them into the equation. In order to make a profit from disenchanting carnelians  one of the math formulas must be true.

Let's look at an example of the equations on my server.
Carnelians are at 9g per, lets say i buy 3 stacks worth, so 60 of them. GCE are at 34g per and dust is at 7g per. So the equation would look like this

 60(9) + 60(1.42)<  2.5x (60/3)(34)
625.2< 1700                              So the equation proves true if you got pure GCE

60(9) + 60(1.42) < 4(60/3)(7)    The equation doesn't prove that you would make a profit if  
625.2< 560                                  you got  pure dust.

Edit: Thanks to Flux tipping me on the DE table ratio, the equation can made to be read as

625.2< 1700(.75) + 560(.25)
625.2< 1415

So the equation does seem to work somewhat and it shows that it can profitable to just buy carnelians by themselves.

Pros- A good way to look quickly at potential profits, far faster than prospecting obsidium

Cons- Does not take into account RNG, does not take into account undercutting on auction house and auction house deposit costs. Leads to a shortage of hypnotic dust eventually.

First post- ideas, designs, goals, and a tip

I broke down and decided to finally start a blog.I figured that I could help out a few people with various ways to make gold in World of Warcraft. My goals with this blog are to write posts that are up to date with the latest changes in wow and to write posts that provide valuable tips and tricks in gold making.
I will try to write posts that will entertain the readers and be different from the various other gold blogs that are out there.

Now that the wall of text is out of the way lets get onto a useful gold making tip. BoA enchants are very popular on my server. They are a very fast mover. I'd recommend making mainly the weapon enchants which include: healing power, spellpower, fiery weapon, crusader, unholy weapon, lifestealing, mighty intellect.

Have you wondered why people will spend 250g on fiery weapon with mats that costs 30g or so. I personally think the main reason is that well it glows, which is a sad reason to buy it.

Yeah some of these enchants are rather good to level with of course. Even if you don't have these enchants, their mats usually include large brilliant shards. If you have a large amount of these I'd recommend getting some of these enchants and selling them.
